官方简介
Visitors to the Huntingdon College campus are enchanted by the collegiate Gothic architecture of the buildings, which surround a serene and beautiful Green in the center of campus, a part of the historic Old Cloverdale neighborhood in Alabama's capital city, Montgomery. It is this mix of strength and tradition with the charm and friendliness of the South that combine to lend Huntingdon a unique flavor, but at its heart, it is the mission and motto that define the Huntingdon experience. Huntingdon College, grounded in the Judeo-Christian tradition of the United Methodist Church, is committed to nurturing growth in faith, wisdom, and service and to graduating individuals prepared to succeed in a rapidly changing world. Founded in 1854, Huntingdon is a coeducational liberal arts college. The College motto is "Enter to grow in wisdom; go forth to apply wisdom in service." The Huntingdon experience for full-time day students can be summarized in the components of The Huntingdon Plan, which include: 1.) Each student is provided a laptop computer for use during all four years of study, theirs to keep at graduation; 2.) Travel-study, with most costs included in regular tuition and fees, is part of the junior or senior year. In recent years, students have traveled to six of the seven continents as well as parts of the United States, including Africa, Alaska, Australia, Austria, China, Costa Rica, England, France, Germany, Hawaii, Italy, Mexico, Northern Ireland, Peru, and Spain. 3.) Hands-on learning experiences include internships, practicum experiences, student teaching, service learning, student-faculty research, and/or Capstone courses in selected majors; 4.) Levelized Tuition ensures that tuition costs will not increase for four years of consecutive full-time enrollment; and 5.) From the First Year Experience (FYEx) throughout the four-year Plan of Study, personalized advising and mentoring are part of the "Know and Be Known" atmosphere of Huntingdon College. At Huntingdon, students discover what they are called to do with their lives, as well as where their talents meet the world's needs, through the broad exposure of liberal arts courses, the experiences of living and studying in community, and the encouragement received from professors and advisors. Service is a hallmark of Huntingdon College, where every club or organization participates in at least one service project each semester. Students have plowed fields and planted crops for the Montgomery Food Bank through Project Jericho, provided adapted sports activities for children with physical disabilities through the Wheelin' Hawks program, tutored children and made school improvements through the Partners In Education program, saved thousands of dollars in tax preparation fees for low-income families through the SaveFirst program, and made the community a better place to be through a myriad of other good works. Huntingdon offers 24 majors, 17 minors, 6 teacher certification programs, 9 pre-professional advising programs, more than 50 clubs and organizations, 14 academic honoraries, 14 NCAA-III intercollegiate athletic teams, 7 national Greek fraternities and sororities, and a full range of music and visual and performing arts opportunities. Much emphasis is placed on life after Huntingdon College. Placement rates into graduate and professional schools are as high as twice the national averages. The College's Center for Career and Vocation offers a wide range of services to prepare students for and help students through the job or graduate school search process. Tradition and folklore add much to the Huntingdon experience, from the famous "Red Lady" ghost stories to much-loved occasions such as Homecoming, Reunion, the Oracle Hunt, and a plethora of concerts, convocations, performances, and student life programs, Huntingdon students find they are part of a continuum connecting the past to the future.
